In Memoriam

Brett J. Groshek

1980 – 2026

Brett J. Groshek

Brett passed away just one-half hour short of one year from being diagnosed with gallbladder and liver cholangiocarcinoma. Brett was born on June 22, 1980, to Wayne Groshek and Lois Long.

Brett truly found himself outdoors. He loved hunting, ice fishing, lake fishing, snowmobiling, and four-wheeling. Some would say that being stuck indoors could make him a bit crabby, as fall and winter were his favorite seasons and where he felt most at home. He enjoyed taxidermy and woodworking and took pride in creating things with his hands. Brett was a loyal Chicago Bears fan and a well-known "honey-do list" procrastinator.

Above all else, Brett was a loving husband and a proud father. His son, Mason, was his right-hand man, and Brett was a devoted "girl dad" to his twin daughters, Olivia and Madilynn, who proudly held his heart.

At the age of 38, Brett made the courageous decision to return to school for Wood Science. While juggling family life and school, he excelled—graduating with high honors, earning five certificates and one associate degree from Northcentral Technical College – Antigo Campus. Through hard work and dedication, he received scholarships each quarter to help offset the cost of his education. Brett went on to work at Featherstone Cabinetry, where he achieved the position of plant manager, and was known as a hardworking employee who was respected and loved by many.

Brett is survived by his wife of 15 years, Nicole; his children, Mason, Olivia, and Madilynn; his father, Wayne (significant other Anna Galecki) Groshek; his mother, Lois (Kevin) Long; his godparents, Lance Romanowski and Gail Lilla; brothers by choice, Troy (Jennifer) Groshek, Jacob Groshek, Connor Groshek, and John (Kim) Fandrey; as well as many aunts, uncles, cousins, and special friends.

He was preceded in death by his father-in-law, Charlie Pinkepank; his paternal grandparents, Herman (Helen) Groshek; and his maternal grandparents, John (Alice) Romanowski.

A Celebration of Brett's Life will be held on Saturday, February 7, 2026, at Lisa's at Lakeside, 214857 County Road Y, Hatley, WI 54440. Family and friends are invited to ice fish any time, because that's what Brett would be doing. Family will greet friends from 12:00 pm to 2:00 pm, with a service to take place at 2:00 pm. Family ask that you bring stories about Brett to share. Food and fellowship will follow the service.

The family would like to thank the entire Aspirus Hospice Team, especially Jennifer Yurish, north team nurse Brenda, as well as nurses Jason, and Shawn Hurt, as they all gave excellent care around the clock. Their attention and care to Brett is truly what helped the family get through these difficult days.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family to help offset medical expenses incurred during Brett's illness.

Brett will be remembered for his strength, his love for the outdoors, his dedication to his family, and the many lives he touched along the way.
