Darrell W. Boyd

Darrell W. Boyd, 73, of Athens, passed away on Wednesday, May 27, 2026, at Aspirus Medford Hospital.

He was born on April 30, 1953, in Litchfield, Illinois, to the late Elmer and Mary (Davis) Boyd. As Darrell was growing up, he lived in several states and graduated from Ponderosa High School in Shingle Springs, California. Darrell was united in marriage to Sherri Passehl on May 18, 1990, at St. Thomas Catholic Church in Milan. She preceded him in death on March 28, 2010.

Darrell worked for many years at Stratford Builders and later as a forklift operator at Marathon Cheese. Outside of work, he loved to spend time outdoors hunting, fishing, and taking in nature at the pond near his home. He enjoyed and adored the companionship of his Black Lab, Jake. Darrell cherished the time with his family and grandchildren, and attended as many sporting events and activities that he could. He loved supporting his grandchildren. He also attended sprint car races in Shawano and Antigo with his son, Craig.

Survivors include his children, Casey (Paul) Zarnke, James Boyd, and Craig (Sarah) Boyd; grandchildren, Kamden, Kalei, and Kincaide Zarnke and Callum and Scarlette Boyd; sister, Linda (Mark) Ellenbecker; brother, William Boyd; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Udell (Kari) Passehl, Tim Passehl, Sandy (Jay) Schmidt, Kevin (Barb) Passehl, Sue (John) Wood; and many nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Sherri Boyd; parents, Elmer and Mary Boyd; brother, Charles (Rita) Boyd; and father-in-law and mother-in-law, Urban and Elizabeth Passehl.

The graveside service will be at 4:00 p.m. on Friday, June 12, 2026, at Wuertzburg Cemetery, 116746 Wuertzburg Road, Athens (Town of Johnson). A Celebration of Life will begin at 5:30 p.m. at the home of Craig Boyd, 217010 County Road M, Stratford. Online condolences may be expressed at www.petersonkraemer.com.
