Francis Edward "Bud" Fischer, 88, of Antigo, Wisconsin, passed away at home on July 8, 2026.
Bud was born on June 21, 1938, in Antigo, Wisconsin, to Frank Fischer Jr. and Marie Fischer (Smith).
He married his wife Joyce (Wickey) on November 14, 1959, in Milwaukee. Together they built a life and a family that reflected everything he valued.
Bud served his country in the United States Marine Corps, where he worked as a truck mechanic. After his service, he went to work for Bultman Trucking in Milwaukee. He later spent ten years at Consolidated Freightways in Wausau before returning to Bultman Trucking, where he remained until he retired after thirty years of driving with the Teamsters.
Anyone who knew Bud knew that his work didn’t stop when he retired. He was a man of many talents — a self-taught carpenter, electrician, mechanic and welder who could build or repair just about anything. He never hesitated to lend a hand to anyone who needed it, and he took pride in passing on those skills and hard-working attitude to his children.
Bud was happiest outdoors. He loved to hunt and fish, work on his tractors, and he was most at home in the woods. You could always find him in his shop building and fabricating just about anything. He spent many summers at the family cottage on Oxbow Lake in Presque Isle, Wisconsin, and loved camping in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula near Lake Superior. And wherever Bud went, you could always find him with a can of Skoal in his chest pocket.
He is survived by his wife Joyce; his daughters Yvonne (Scott) Nutter and Dianne (Mike) Kohler; his son Jerry (Wendy) Fischer; his sister Shirley Laab; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank Fischer Jr. and Marie Fischer; his sister Joann Gehrke; and his great-grandson Loxley.
A celebration of life will be held in the fall. Details to follow. Mid Wisconsin Cremation Society is assisting the family. Online condolences and words of remembrance may be left at MWCS.WS.
