Lon was born on April 26, 1965 in Wausau, WI. He was a devoted husband, a loving father and grandfather, and a steady presence to family and friends who were fortunate enough to know him. He valued hard work, loyalty, and taking care of the people, he loved.
Above all else, Lon cherished his family. He shared a deep and enduring love with his wife, Tracy, and took great pride in his family. His strength, live out loud humor, and willingness to help others will be remembered always.
Lon is survived by his wife and best friend Tracy Riehle; stepdaughter, Nicole (Jesse) Petroski; grandchildren, Bane, Ranea, Easton; chosen children; TJ (Marissa) Gorski, Trish Gorski, Zach Hallas, grandchildren; Tye, Lili, Ava, and Ryder, brothers, Pat (Diane) Wunsch, Jeff (Lisa) Wunsch, nieces & nephews; Lisa (Andy), Ben (Trish), Ashley, great niece and great nephews Lydia, Will, Leo, Charolette, Harper, Isabella, Chloe and Aunt Eleanor. He was preceded in death by his parents Lawerence & Joan and sister Kathleen Wunch-Fehl.
Lon was a devoted husband and a loyal, steady presence to those who knew him. He also shared a special bond with his beloved dog, Bella, who was never far from his side and brought him constant companionship.
Lon was a proud retired heavy equipment operator and longtime member of Local Union 139, where he dedicated many years to hard work and craftsmanship. He took great pride in his work and the union that supported his career.
Outside of work, Lon had a true passion for NHRA drag racing and NASCAR, never missing a chance to follow the sport he loved. Whether watching or traveling to a race, both sports brought him genuine joy.
A celebration of life will be held on June 27th, 2026 at the Eagle's Club, 1703 S 3rd Ave., Wausau, WI, at 3:00 p.m.
Lon's legacy lives on in the lives he touched and the love he gave so freely. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
