In Memoriam

Ronald H. Gut

1940 – 2026

Ronald H. Gut

Ronald H. Gut, 85, passed away peacefully on January 18, 2026. He was born on March 28, 1940, to the late Herman and Mabel (Garske) Gut.

Ronald graduated from Wausau High School and went on to attend the University of Wisconsin–Stevens Point, where he earned his bachelor's degree. It was there that he met the love of his life, Linda Smith—a relationship clearly meant to be, as Linda crossed the ocean from Hawaii to attend UW–Stevens Point in Wisconsin.

Known affectionately as "Big Tug," Ronald had a deep love for music, especially polkas, and enjoyed playing the accordion. He was an avid sports fan who proudly cheered on the Green Bay Packers, Milwaukee Brewers, and Wisconsin Badgers.

Ronald will be remembered for his love of family, music, and deer camp, and for the joy and laughter he brought to those who knew him.

Ronald dedicated 30 years of service to Wausau Insurance, working as a claims specialist before retiring. He was a member of the Maine Lions and the American Legion Montgomery-Plant-Dudley Post 10, where he enjoyed fellowship and community involvement.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Linda; his children, Julie Esser, Jeff (Audrey) Gut, and Ron "Little Tug" Gut Jr.; seven cherished grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren, with another great grandbaby on the way.

Visitation will be held from 3:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 27, 2026, at John J. Buettgen Funeral Home, 948 Grand Avenue, Schofield. Military honors will take place at 3:30 p.m. at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, please remember to be KIND.

Arrangements by John J. Buettgen Funeral Home.
