Shirley Buffington

1930 – 2026

Shirley Buffington

Shirley Buffington, 96, passed away peacefully on March 21, 2026, under the care of Compassus Hospice. She was born on February 14, 1930, in Marshfield, Wisconsin, to the late Alois and Theresa (Schroeder) Graettinger.

Shirley was united in marriage to George Buffington on June 23, 1951. He preceded her in death on July 25, 2005. Together they built a life centered on family, faith, and community.

She was a devoted mother to Jane (Henry) Lamovec; a loving grandmother to Patricia (Mike) Marquardt and Robert (Megan) Lamovec; a cherished great-grandmother to Sabrina (Scottie Subert) Heil and Mikaila (Jacob Weitz) Heil; and a proud great-great-grandmother to Hudson and Jebediah.

Shirley is further survived by her sister, Betty Borisch; and her brother-in-law, Bill (Peggy) Buffington.

She was preceded in death by her husband, George; her parents; her sister, Audrey Trudeau; and her brother, Jim Graettinger.

Shirley dedicated 41 years of service to the Marshfield Clinic in Marshfield, where she was known for her strong work ethic and kindness. Eight years ago, she moved to Wausau to be closer to her daughter. She made her home at Primrose, where she formed many meaningful friendships and enjoyed participating in activities. Shirley especially loved listening to Green Bay Packers games.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Primrose and Compassus Hospice for their compassionate care and support.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, May 1, 2026, at St. Therese Catholic Church. Visitation will take place from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at the church. Burial will take place at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Marshfield at a later date.

Shirley will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew her.
