Patricia Ann Wood, age 91, peacefully passed away on Sunday, May 24, 2026, at
Aspirus Hospital in Wausau with members of her family by her side. Pat was born on
January 2, 1935, to Dave and Eva (Franks) Krause in Lake Linden, Michigan.
In 1953 Pat graduated from Lake Linden High School. After high school she married
William (Bill) Wood on October 17th, 1953, in Lake Linden. In 1954 Pat and Bill moved
to Alaska due to his military service. They returned to Houghton, Michigan, while Bill
attended Michigan Technological University.
In 1963 they moved to Rhinelander, Wisconsin, where Bill was employed by the State
of Wisconsin as a forester. Pat’s role was homemaker which involved raising four boys
and miscellaneous home duties. As the boys got older she had several jobs outside
the home. She first worked as a cook for the Newbold Elementary School and later
worked at one of the local grocery stores.
However, by far Pat’s most important job was supporting her husband and taking care
of her four boys while creating a loving environment with lots of excellent home-cooked
meals. Pat’s true legacy was more than what most would call “just a housewife.” She
was one of her generation’s strong women who could “do it all,” from being a loving
wife and mother, disciplinarian, scheduler, teacher, cook, home cleaning and repairs,
and with four boys a medical expert for small wound care. She loved to sew and bake
cookies.
Pat always made the holidays special for her children and grandchildren by organizing
family dinners and gatherings. Cookies and a wide variety of baked goods were always
available for all to enjoy. Pat will be fondly remembered for her dedication to her family
and for being a kind and loving wife to Bill and a caring mother and grandmother to her
children and grandchildren.
Pat is survived by her sons, James (Jean) Wood of Lake Tomahawk, Timothy Wood of
Arbor Vitae. Thomas (Bobbi Sue) Wood of Houghton, MI, daughter-in-law Jolie Wood of
Mosinee, grandchildren Andrew, Kevin, Joshua, Anna, Daniel, Ben, Joseph; great
-grandchildren William, Jocelyn, Tommy; niece Gretchen (Jim) Brogan of Ontonagon,
MI., nephew Don (Glenna) Brinkman of Lake Linden, MI., nephew Louis (Carol)
Chandonais of Lake Linden, MI., and other family and many friends.
Pat was preceded in death by her husband, Bill, infant son Michael, son Ronald, and
sisters Hasseltine (Tina) Brinkman and Margaret Chandonais, also niece Carol (Marty)
Dennis and nephew David (Mary Ann) Chandonais.
