Steven Dale Sonderleiter, 80, passed away peacefully at home on May 30, 2026, surrounded by his children and his faithful companion, Janice, while under the compassionate care of Compassus Hospice.
Steven was born on November 8, 1945, in Los Angeles, California, to the late Dale and Mary (Bracy) Sonderleiter. He was raised in the Garwin, Iowa, area alongside his siblings Connie, Paula, Diane, and Kenneth.
On August 12, 1966, Steven married Carol Ann Reitenbaugh. Together they established their home in Le Grand, Iowa, and were blessed with four children: Lori Sonderleiter of Jasper, Tennessee; twins Steven Sonderleiter and Stephanie Sonderleiter of Marshalltown, Iowa; and Kristi Sonderleiter of Montour, Iowa.
Steven proudly served his country in the United States Army Reserves. He dedicated many years of his working life to Harker's Meats in Le Mars, Iowa. After relocating to Wisconsin, he continued his career with Mullins Cheese until his retirement.
A talented craftsman and mechanic, Steven had a lifelong passion for motorcycles. He enjoyed building, customizing, and riding motorcycles, earning recognition and an award for a custom chopper he created. He also loved working on vehicles and was always happiest when he had a project in the garage.
While living in Wisconsin, Steven was fortunate to meet Janice Haase, who became his devoted companion and partner for many years. Their time together brought him great happiness and companionship.
Steven is lovingly survived by Janice; his sisters, Diane, Paula, and Connie; Steven's children, Lori, Steven, Stephanie, and Kristi; as well as numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren who will cherish his memory.
In addition to his parents, Steven was preceded in death by his younger brother, Kenneth.
In accordance with Steven's wishes, cremation has taken place. Private family graveside services will be held in Marshalltown, Iowa.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to Compassus Hospice for the exceptional care, kindness, and support provided to Steven and his loved ones during his final days.
